Style

Style…
Lately I have none. Well I have one, it is boring. Yep, my style lately is boring.

I love fashion. I always have. Leonie, my dear blogging buddy does too. She and I went to lunch yesterday and I realized she looked great and I looked well… dull.

Three years ago my style was pretty cute. I had a corporate job where I made a bunch more money so I spent said money on clothes and fancy shoes. I was a boss so I had to look nice for meetings, etc. Fast forward to now. My job is a casual one and I am not a boss. I took a step back in Corporate America to focus on Yoga and other fun life stuff. I am not trying to get ahead in my day job and for some reason this has translated into boring clothes.

Fresh Eggs

Have you ever had fresh eggs?

Not just the grocery store bought ones. If you have a friend who has chickens beg for some eggs. If you ever have the opportunity to buy fresh pasture raised chicken eggs jump on it.

I have dedicated myself to finding higher quality ingredients. Knowing where my food comes from is important to me now. I try to find quality local eggs whenever possible.

Inspiration...

I love this poem by Rumi. It reminds me to keep hoping and trying.

Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving.

It doesn’t matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow a hundred times.
Come, yet again, come, come. — Rumi

The Art of Yoga

A couple of Saturday's ago I happened upon a link from LA Yoga about The Art of Yoga - A morning of Yoga, Art and Music at the Getty Museum. Loving all three of these I was immediately interested and without hesitation grabbed my mat and headed out and off down the 405.

Ashley Turner led the yoga session with music by KCRW's Jason Bentley and this was followed by a guided tour of the Gustav Klimt's The Magic of Line Exhibition.

MBD - Monarch Butterfly Day!

The other morning I was teaching my outdoor yoga class at River Park in Ventura, it was a gorgeous sunny morning - which happens more often that not in Southern California thankfully!

Towards the end of class a beautiful Monarch butterfly came by and flew around us for a few minutes. I love these creatures and have been trying to create a more Monarch friendly habitat in my garden so for me at least it added a special something to the morning.

Finding Yoga

What lead you to go to your first yoga class? Here is my story

A horse led me to yoga, with a quick kick to the face. :-) Yes, you heard me right. A horse and a kick.

Riding 2010
I was horseback riding occasionally with my sister at a barn here in my town. My sister is quite a great horsewoman, riding English. She jumps and shows. She is amazing. Me, well I was just learning to ride.

Blessed with overabundance...

...in the garden this summer?

So things have gone a little bit crazy in my 'trial' garden this year. I say trial garden as I had some empty space down the side of my house that was literally doing nothing, it was just dirt. It doesn't get full sun, about 4 - 5 hours or so per day in the summer so I didn't think that would be enough to really grow any of the veggies I wanted to - tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs etc.

Well in Simi I guess 4-5 hours of full sun is plenty!!

Got Wanderlust?

This Sunday was WanderLust - Yoga in the City, an international day of fundraising for Yoga AID.

Yoga in the City started the same morning in Sidney, Australia and traveled the world like a wave in a day, finishing on the pier in Santa Monica, CA in time for sunset.

Decedant Banana Maple Cake

I went an 8:30am yoga class this morning. I don’t eat before I go. As you can imagine I’m ready for food after. Our yoga studio is in a suburban strip mall. Of course there is a donut shop on the corner. Today I was craving a maple cake donut like you wouldn’t believe.

Vegan Pesto

One of my favorite staple recipes is this pesto. I'm so excited to share it with you!

It's Vegan and Paleo and oh so yummy! I add this as a sauce to everything, fish, veggies, as a seasoning in turkey burgers or meatballs. Top tomatoes with a spoonful of this... heaven.

Why Wild Women?

Exploring the creative connection between yoga, life, art/design and the great outdoors.

Why start a blog?

Ever since we met - at a yoga retreat (of course) in beautiful Montecito, CA we found, not only did we share a passion for learning more about yoga asana, philosophy and teaching this to others, but also a shared love of all things creative.

However both of our homes happen to be in suburbia just outside Los Angeles. A beautiful, peaceful, safe and quiet  place which is great for us as yoga teachers but by design lacking a little of the culture and creativity we are searching for.

The question we both wanted to answer is how can we bring in more of the things we love adventures, yoga experiences, art, food, hiking and design, and generally living with a little more consciousness and awareness on a daily basis.

Living in beautiful Southern California there are so many places to gain inspiration from which can spill over into all aspects of our lives. So it is our intention to share our passions and bring you with us as we go...

Why Wild Women?

We're talking more about our connection with the earth and life around us rather than crazy, tequila wild, although that has been known to happen! The suburban bit we already mentioned!!!
